At Houssam Eddie Hariri High School, it has become our habit not to miss—but to always embrace—every opportunity for our students to engage, compete, and excel. We ensure that whenever an academic or creative challenge arises, we are present, ready to contribute, and confident that we leave an impact.
On May 30, 16 of our talented high school students took part in the Writing & Illustration Competition, originally set to be hosted live at Smart College in Tyre. The original plan was to attend the competition in person; however, safety and security considerations led us to change plans, and at the same time ensure that our students could still fully participate. Instead of heading to Tyre, we transformed our Writing Center into an active competition space, where our students could go through the experience via live streaming. What mattered most wasn’t the change in location but the commitment, excitement, and beautiful talent that each participant poured into his and her work.
Prior to the competition, students carefully selected their tools and materials, anticipation took over—expectations were high, excitement filled the air, and questions arose as they prepared for the next day. Friday! The day! As the competition began, participants were presented with three prompts, and after thoughtful discussion and careful planning with their partners, they chose the prompts that best suited their talents. Then time flew by, and two hours passed like a vision in a dream: Inspiration and the muse filled the room, driving their imaginations and guiding their hands like magic. Words flowed, and illustrations took shape.
Time was up! The students could hardly bear to leave their work behind, but it had to be evaluated—they had to leave it for the judges. As they waited for the results, many stood outside the Writing Center door – anticipation filling the air. Yet, in their absence, their art spoke for them. The results arrived! Three pairs of students claimed the prizes, but in truth, all 16 artists were winners.
This competition wasn’t about winning. It was about experiences that show courage, build characters, and reveal talents.
Congratulations to all our participants and winners. We couldn’t be prouder of them—not just for their beautiful work, but for the character, dedication, and creativity they brought to this experience.
Finally, as educators, we understand that in the long run, it’s not grades or report cards that truly matter—it’s the legacy we build by shaping bright minds and leaving a lasting impact.
At Houssam Eddie Hariri High School, this is who we are—we engage, we compete, and we excel. In this memorable experience, our students were present, made their mark, and confidently left a lasting impact.
