13th HHHSMUN Conference
- OHCHR Presidents Note -
To our esteemed delegates,
We are delighted to welcome you to the 13th HHHHS Model United Nations, representing the OHCHR committee. I am Shadi Markiz, and alongside my co-president, Ahmad Mawed, we are thrilled to guide you through this important discussion.
MUN holds a special place in my life—not just as Shadi Markiz the president, but as an individual. My journey in MUN began when I was 10 years old, and I can confidently say it has transformed me entirely. As a swimmer, I’ve learned the values of discipline and self-improvement, but MUN has elevated my development even further. Balancing the demands of training and competition with academics in a rigorous institution has not been easy, but MUN has taught me time management, enhanced my verbal communication skills, and broadened my horizons. The bonds I have built and the knowledge I have gained through this experience have been invaluable. I know every one of you will seize this opportunity to grow both mentally and emotionally.
As a proud resident of Kfarchouba and Chebaa in southern Lebanon, I carry the weight of my village's history. These villages have been destroyed over 90 times by conflict, yet each time we rebuild, showcasing our resilience and determination. My grandfather, a civilian, lost his life in one of these attacks—a painful reminder of the toll of war. For me, MUN provides a powerful platform to channel this pain and advocate for justice, ensuring our heritage and stories live on. Together, we can strive to end cycles of injustice.
Hello there, this is Ahmad on the other end. Being Palestinian by birth has always fueled my passion for advocacy and human rights. From a young age, I witnessed the oppression faced by my people, which ignited my commitment to the cause. MUN has given me a platform to communicate these experiences and mobilize others toward meaningful change. I am optimistic that the debates in this committee will generate ideas crucial for addressing the pressing issues within our scope. I encourage everyone to voice their opinions and collaborate, as fruitful conversations can make a lasting impact even beyond this conference.
We are excited to witness the skills, enthusiasm, and commitment that every delegate will bring to this committee. We encourage you to embrace this opportunity for learning, teamwork, and diplomacy, and we are confident it will be an unforgettable experience.
Joining the OHCHR committee will not only challenge your critical thinking and expand your knowledge but also inspire you to become a passionate advocate for justice and human rights. By joining us, you will contribute to shaping a brighter and fairer future for all.
Best of luck to everyone,
Shadi Markiz & Ahmad Mawed
