Early Detection is the Best Protection against Breast Cancer

29 Oct 2018

October is the World Breast Cancer Awareness Month! In October, a worldwide annual campaign involving thousands of organizations has been held to raise awareness against breast cancer and to highlight the importance of breast cancer education and research.
In an attempt to raise awareness about breast cancer at our school, HHHS Nursing Department in the collaboration with the biology coordinator, Mrs. Jana Abou Orm, has organized several activities to all teachers and seniors, some of which are wearing pink, taking memorial photos, distributing posters in the middle and secondary school, and decorating bulletins of pink balloons representing breast CA symbol, in an attempt to help the school community detect, prevent and control it for life. In addition, grade eight French system learners in the collaboration with Mrs. Diana Saleh and Miss. Eliane Sahyouni have organized a purposeful fundraising event donated to a breast cancer rival employee at HHHS who has been undergoing a chemotherapy treatment. Besides, in an attempt to raise students' awareness, pink ribbons that were done by grade 9 students: Tala Jardali, Tala Saka, and Diala Mordaa under the supervision and collaboration of Miss Rania Hage Ibrahim and Mrs. Nagham Issa were distributed to all middle school students. Moreover, the French program students in the collaboration with Mrs. Aisha Bakkar and by the organization of the delegate Shaymaa El Mallah have prepared and sold pink bracelets and wristbands quoting "Fight; you are strong!" for middle and high school students and the money was donated was well. Since early detection is the best protection against breast cancer, an informative brochure about the detection of breast CA, the importance of early detection in the cure, the risk factors contributing to it, its self-assessment and examination, symptoms, diagnoses, screening and the treatment of Breast CA was distributed to all classrooms and female staff, teachers, administrators and directors at HHHS.
At the end of the day, trophies arranged by Mrs. Ohoud Afara, Mrs. Jana Abu Orm, Mr. Rabie Al Ali and Mrs. Aisha Bakar have been given to the middle, secondary and general school directors. The goal was to show the significance of this event and to remind all HHHS Staff about the importance of the early detection and the regular follow- up care for investigations especially if there were a family history. Towards the end of October, we can’t but bestow special thanks to everyone: directors, advisors, staff members, seniors, and students for their collaborative efforts to make this event purely humanitarian and wonderfully successful. May God preserve our school community from illnesses!
