Grade 7 Performance Task on Peacemaking

Challenge 20/20 is an Internet-based program that pairs classes at any grade level from schools in the U.S.A. with their counterpart classes in schools in other countries. Together, the teams try to find local solutions to one of 20 global problems. This year, HHHS adopted Challenge 20/20 whereby several global issues were divided among different grade levels in the middle school division. Peacemaking is one of the global issues that countries worldwide are struggling to attain; therefore, 7th graders were split into groups and given the opportunity to choose one conflict highlighting its social, academic, and economic effects on a country and recommending solutions to it. Not only did our students deeply tackle this issue, but they also had the chance of communicating with an international school- Columbia School; consequently, they enhanced their global awareness about conflicts and resolutions. Their creativity was reflected through the usage of different visual aids and scene making in the presentations they conducted as a final outcome of the project that strengthened their beliefs in the significance of peace around the globe.
