Phonological Awareness

Almost all young children develop the ability to understand spoken language. While most kindergarten children have mastered the complexities of speech; they don't know that spoken language is made up of discrete words, which are made up of syllables, which themselves are made up of the smallest units of sound, called "phonemes". This awareness that spoken language is made up of discrete sounds appears to be a crucial factor in children learning to read.
Regarding the importance of reading as a multifunctional process involving word recognition, comprehension, fluency, motivation, and achieving fluent readers, "Phonological Awareness As A Step To Reading Success" presentation was performed to fulfill this goal especially on developing the word recognition. This presentation was facilitated by the teachers: Nada Nassar, Darine Yassine, Monifa El Baba, Antoinette Habli, Reem El Zein, and Abeer Hajj Hassan.
A part of making this goal visible, we had gone through the explorations of research findings on phonological Awareness, and came out with practical guidelines for our preschool children.
The objective of our presentation was to clarify research findings on "Phonological Awareness", discuss our common understandings from three orientations done about "Phonological Awareness", and to share practical guidelines in our preschool with connection to the language PYP scope and sequence . Throughout the presentation, phonological awareness tasks were discussed and clarified, and played through authentic examples that enhanced the participation of the preschool attendees for fully understanding and excitement.
